NFL: Jameis Winston to be fined $50,000 by league for touching Jets’ Jameik Winston
A player will not be fined by the NFL for making contact with an opposing player during a game or on the field during a football game, league spokesman Brian McCarthy said Thursday.
The fine would be the same for making the contact, as the incident occurred before the contact occurred, McCarthy said.
Winston, who is in the NFL’s concussion protocol, did not comment after the announcement.
NFL Players Association spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement that Winston “has been subjected to a number of improper conduct incidents since he entered the league in 2015, and he should not be rewarded for his actions.
He should not have been rewarded with a new contract for the first time since his suspension, and the league will continue to stand behind him.”
The Jets also suspended Winston for the season opener against the Detroit Lions after a positive test for a substance banned by the league.
